Below we will highlight information about upcoming activities:New pastor starts at ESC (English Speaking Congregation)The congregation which meets in the hall beneath the Tempio in Co.V Emm.II has been without a regular pastor since Rev Alex Cairns went back to Scotland last autumn. Now Rev Stewart Lamont has arrived to take up the post and will be living with his wife Larisa in the church flat in Via S.Pio V.The ministry at ESC is supported by the Church of Scotland of which Rev Lamont is a minister. Aged 63 he worked for 20 years in broadcasting and journalism before taking a parish in Glasgow. After posts in Brussels and Gibraltar he has been interim minister in Bermuda and Lisbon before coming to Torino. He is the author of ten books, the last of which is a thriller set on the Rock of Gibraltar. “I have been uplifted by the warmth of the welcome from our hosts in the Tavola Valdese,” says Rev Lamont, “And amazed at the huge variety of nationalities who come to worship in the ESC.” He plans to introduce into the service each Sunday after the Bible Readings a short “Living Letter” in which someone each week tells the congregation about their country of birth, its strengths and its weaknesses, which will be followed by prayers for the country and the families of those now living in Torino. The services in ESC start at 1030am (entrance by Via Principe Tommaso) and Holy Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of the month. Friends of the previous pastor Rev Alex Cairns and his wife Dorothy will be interested to know that he will be returning to take services on 18th and 25th April. | |||
